INTERNSHIPS

At this time, Brain Mill Press is not accepting applications for internships.

Brain Mill Press is an independent publisher located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. We publish 10-15 titles per year, with a full catalog of fiction, poetry, and graphic novels, as well as a digital magazine, VOICES, featuring essays and poetry. All of our publications prioritize the work of writers of color, women, LGBTQIA+, disabled authors, and First Nations authors.

Internships at BMP can be tailored to the intern’s particular interests or stand as a broad introduction to independent publishing. Interns with Brain Mill Press will learn all aspects of the work of a medium-size independent publishing house and will leave their internship ready to apply their experience and skills to future work in publishing or related careers.

Internships may be remote or on-site at our Green Bay office. Hours are flexible and range from 12-15/week for a part-time internship to 40 hours/week for a full-time internship. Interns are compensated at a competitive hourly rate for a portion of their work, and are offered optional private on-site residency, with terms to be arranged in advance with the publisher.

Applications are accepted for internships for the summer (May or June – August), fall (September-December), and spring (January-April), or for terms suitable to the intern.

To apply, please send the following:

  • a cover letter explaining your interest in publishing and BMP, your preferred start date, whether you are interested in working remotely or on-site, and how many hours you are available each week;
  • a resume detailing your relevant work and life experiences, including detailed information about your skills with computer programs including the Office suite, graphic design programs, online publishing platforms, and the Adobe Creative Suite;
  • a letter of reference from a mentor, colleague, or associate who can speak to your interest, experience, and suitability to complete remote work productively and independently (if applicable).

We particularly encourage applicants of underrepresented identities to apply.
